Over a three-month period, artist Houda Bakkali creates a unique crossroads between six civic centers through virtual art, immersive exhibitions, audiovisual installations, multimedia content, and participatory workshops, using technology as both medium and message. The project positions Arab woman as protagonists, inspired by the figure of her mother, amplifying their voices through a contemporary digital language that bridges tradition and innovation.
Houda Bakkali presents her series inspired by the figure of her mother simultaneously at six civic centers in Barcelona: Fort Pienc Civic Center, Can Castelló Civic Center, La Guatlla Civic Center, Can Verdaguer Civic Center, Trias i Peix Civic Center, and Can Clariana Civic Center.
The exhibitions open on January 11 and close on March 30.
One of the core aims of this project is to reveal the dynamic, versatile, and socially meaningful potential of digital art. Over the course of the exhibition, audiences can experience 30 large-scale mixed-media artworks, alongside animations, augmented-reality pieces, video creations, and a virtual space, distributed across the six venues and connected through digital technologies.
Technology placed at the service of art enables the interweaving of narratives, figures, and visual universes across the 30 works, breaking physical boundaries. Through augmented reality, animation, interactive multimedia elements, and virtual environments, parts of the exhibition can also be accessed through the metaverse, extending the experience beyond geographical limits.
This project represents a seamless intersection of traditional art and cutting-edge technology, where artworks come to life, forming a creative network across Barcelona’s public cultural spaces. Digital tools amplify the project’s message, telling the stories of her protagonist through vibrant, dynamic perspectives, demystifying digital art and bringing its tools closer to audiences of all ages.
Each exhibition is complemented by a theoretical-practical workshop, open to the general public, focused on augmented reality applied to artistic creation, exploring its uses, challenges, and opportunities. These workshops reinforce the project’s educational dimension, encouraging active participation and digital literacy while fostering inclusive access to contemporary artistic practices.
