The exhibition Digital Art, Digital Culture by Houda Bakkali is presented in Hyderabad, the capital of the Indian state of Telangana, a city historically recognized as a crossroads of cultures, languages and traditions. Formerly known for its role in the pearl trade and the Golconda diamond market, Hyderabad today combines this cultural legacy with a strong commitment to science, engineering and technological research, positioning itself as a dynamic center for innovation and knowledge.
The project is hosted by the Alliance Française Hyderabad, an institution founded in 1980 with the mission of fostering cultural exchange through artistic, educational and cultural initiatives that connect French culture with local and international contexts.
Within this framework, Digital Art, Digital Culture examines the intersection of artistic practice, digital technologies and cultural mediation, presenting works that integrate physical media with augmented reality and immersive digital content. The exhibition explores how emerging technologies expand traditional exhibition models and support new forms of interpretation, access and audience engagement.
The selection includes Rebel, one of Bakkali’s earliest augmented reality works developed in Paris, which serves as a reference point for understanding the evolution of immersive technologies within contemporary artistic practice. Through its presentation in Hyderabad, the exhibition positions digital art as a tool for cultural interpretation, technological experimentation and international exchange, aligning historical heritage with contemporary creative processes and future-oriented practices.
