Houda Bakkali’s artwork is inspired by the figure of her missing mother: Adiba, an Arab and Muslim woman, a teacher that was born in Morocco. From the anonymity and power of the classroom, she always defended the right of women to fight for their future, to design, create and live freely. From the normalisation of the discourse and the memory of a heritage in which the protagonist of Bakkali’s art combines traditional kaftans with the bikinis she wore on the beaches of Tangier in the 60s and 70s, looking towards a future full of success and fulfilled dreams. From messages of hope, color and optimism, from the legacy of a history full of enthusiasm and desire for life, people and diversity, the artist finds in this powerful message the best motivation for her work, representing her muse in different scenes and scenarios, from the mystery of the night to the Mediterranean light, from the flowers that surround the protagonist like a true divinity to the simple lines that define a clear and firm message of empowerment.
An internationally recognised and recognisable artwork, full of universal messages that bring us closer in our diversity and bridge any distance. Timeless messages of joy, optimism, hope, friendship, happiness, beauty, understanding and communication. A play with a protagonist and a true story, the story of the everyday, the close and the simple. A tribute to freedom. Looking to the future and valuing our heritage. It is art that makes us free.

Blending traditional and digital art, I share my homage to female empowerment through the versatility of new technologies. From the canvas to augmented reality, video creation, animation, immersive and virtual spaces, and a whole future full of surprises that promises to create unique experiences that merge the past, present and future. Breaking down spatial, temporal and generational barriers to give way to diversity, hope and celebration.
The new technologies allow me to create, recreate, reinvent, continually build new messages. They enhance my motivations and are the best ally for my creative process. They are unpredictable like the imagination itself and are the perfect tool to convey the message of my work, which continually grows, which is limitless and always has the desire to connect with new audiences, to promote diversity, to break boundaries and to promote knowledge in new technologies applied to art.
